L’abbé de l’Épée introduces his young deaf and mute students to the Court and announces that two of them will soon be married. The assembled courtesans are shocked at the prospect of that union which they regard as a mockery of the sanctity of marriage. Perceiving the opportunity of a witticism, Madame de Blayac ridicules the upcoming nuptials by comparing them to a play by Shakespeare starring circus animals.

L’assemblée des courtisans s’indigne d’une telle union qui selon eux bafouerait les sacrements du mariage. Voyant là l’occasion d’un bon mot, Madame de Blayac tourne les futures noces en ridicule en les comparant à une pièce de Shakespeare interprétée par des animaux de cirque.
