English Synopsis

After her mother’s death, Camille (Anne Consigny) returns to the island of Ouessant where she was born, to sell her parents’ house. In the house, she finds a book by a certain Antoine Cassendi (Grégori Dérangère) about the “Phare de la Jument” (The Mare Lighthouse), of which her father Yvon Le Guen (Philippe Torreton) was the keeper. The story of Camille’s parents and Antoine is then told in flashback. In 1963, Antoine, a veteran of the Algerian war, is sent to Ouessant to help the keeper of the Mare. Being a stranger to Brittany, he is not welcomed with open arms by the locals. Gradually though, he forms a strong friendship with Yvon, but he is also attracted to his wife, Mabé (Sandrine Bonnaire).

Après la mort de sa mère, Camille (Anne Consigny) revient à l’île d’Ouessant où elle est née pour vendre la maison de ses parents. Dans la maison, elle trouve un livre écrit par un certain Antoine Cassendi (Grégori Dérangère) sur le Phare de la Jument, dont son père Yvon Le Guen (Philippe Torreton) était le gardien. L’histoire des parents de Camille et d’Antoine est ensuite racontée en flashback. En 1963, Antoine, ancien combattant d’Algérie, est envoyé à Ouessant pour aider le gardien de la Jument. N’étant pas Breton d’origine, il n’est pas accueilli à bras ouverts par les Ouessantins. Cependant, Yvon et lui se lient peu à peu d’une profonde amitié. Par ailleurs, Antoine est attiré par la femme d’Yvon, Mabé (Sandrine Bonnaire).
