Much Ado About Nothing examines the effects of gossip and pride on Benedick and Beatrice, two headstrong lovers who refuse to admit their love for one another. The play also follows another couple, Claudio and Hero (here renamed Célia), who are also kept apart due to rumour when the latter's reputation is slandered by the jealous interloper Don John.
