English Synopsis
9 June 1940―The capital is surrounded. The French army is in disarray and the population is fleeing. Faced with the defeatist speeches of Pétain and General Weygand, and the indecision of Paul Reynaud, influenced by his partner, Countess Hélène de Portes, who has been campaigning for a total armistice, de Gaulle flies to London, where he makes his famous 18 June 1940 appeal. During these crucial hours, he is Winston Churchill’s privileged interlocutor.

9 juin 1940 : La capitale est encerclée. C’est la débâcle de l’armée française et l’exode de la population. Face aux discours défaitistes de Pétain et du général Weygand et à l’irrésolution d’un Paul Reynaud influencé par sa compagne, la Comtesse Hélène de Portes, qui milite pour un armistice total, de Gaulle s’envole pour Londres d’où il lancera son fameux appel du 18 juin 1940. Il est dans ces heures cruciales l’interlocuteur privilégié de Winston Churchill.
