Stéphanie and her friend Fatima are sitting outside their building on the 4000 estate when Rabah, Stéphanie’s boyfriend, joins them. Fatima is immediately hostile, trying to prevent any public display of affection between the two, claiming that being kissed in public by a boy will get Stéphanie into serious trouble in the neighbourhood, especially since Stéphanie is Jewish and Rabah Muslim. Rabah kisses Stéphanie anyway.
FATIMA: You’re an idiot. You’re really an idiot. You want them to burn her at the stake, is that it? And she’s a Jew. (Addressing Stéphanie) They’re going to stone you. (She pushes Rabah’s hand off Stéphanie’s shoulder) Go on, get off her, Romeo and Juliet. You’re an idiot.

Stéphanie et son amie Fatima, assises devant l’entrée de leur immeuble à la cité des 4000, sont rejointes par Rabah, le petit ami de Stéphanie. Fatima devient aussitôt agressive, voulant empêcher toute démonstration d’affection en public entre les deux amoureux, de crainte que Stéphanie ait des problèmes dans le quartier, d’autant plus que Stéphanie est juive et Rabah musulman. Rabah embrasse Stéphanie malgré tout.
