Henri’s friend Pauline has recommended him for a part in Cédric Rovère’s next film. He comes to Cédric Rovère’s house for an audition.

CÉDRIC ROVÈRE: Alright, back to you. So, Pauline spoke to me about you. Have you known each other long?

HENRI RENAUD: Yeah, we’ve known each other a long time. In fact, we were… we met each other in a theatre class.

CÉDRIC ROVÈRE: Ah, that’s great, so you’ve done some theatre?

HENRI RENAUD: Yeah.

CÉDRIC ROVÈRE: Actors today hardly do it these days. And so they don’t know how to articulate anymore. What did you perform?

(He turns away and starts walking towards his desk)

HENRI RENAUD (taken aback): Uh… well, I was in, uh… (picks up a book from a pile on a side table while Rovère’s back is to him; the book cover reads "Shakespeare") Shakespeare.

CÉDRIC ROVÈRE: Ah, Shakespeare, he’s the best.

HENRI RENAUD: The best!

CÉDRIC ROVÈRE: And who else?

HENRI RENAUD (glancing quickly at the pile of books): Aristophanes and Corneille.

CÉDRIC ROVÈRE: Ah yes, Corneille is great.

CÉDRIC ROVÈRE : Bon, revenons vers vous. Alors, c’est Pauline qui m’a parlé de vous. Vous vous connaissez depuis longtemps ?

HENRI RENAUD : Oui, on se connaît depuis longtemps. En fait, on était… on s’est rencontrés à un cours de théâtre.

CÉDRIC ROVÈRE : Ah, c’est bien, vous avez fait du théâtre ?

HENRI RENAUD : Oui.

CÉDRIC ROVÈRE : Les acteurs d’aujourd’hui n’en font presque plus. Et puis, ils savent plus articuler. Alors qu’avez-vous joué au théâtre ? (Il se détourne pour se diriger vers son bureau)

HENRI RENAUD (surpris) : Euh… Ben, j’ai joué, euh… (Il soulève le livre au sommet d’une pile posée sur un guéridon. Sur la couverture, on peut lire « Shakespeare ») Shakespeare.

CÉDRIC ROVÈRE : Ah, Shakespeare, c’est le plus grand.

HENRI RENAUD : Le plus grand !

CÉDRIC ROVÈRE : Et qui d’autre ?

HENRI RENAUD (jetant un coup d’oeil rapide à la pile de livres) Aristophane aussi et Corneille.

CÉDRIC ROVÈRE : Ah oui, c’est bien ça Corneille.
